Have you ever wondered why america has the highest incarceration rate in the world?
-Everyday I find myself questioning why we have prisons and what their functions are. It sounds ridiculous to question the functions of prisons because we are always taught that prisons lock up criminals to protect society and to make them pay for their crimes.
-I've been finding that no one ever really wonders what happens to people in prison or what they will be like when they return to society.
-So many prisoners never had a chance. Some came from poor areas or were abused and when they are released they have no choice but to continue a life of crime.
-So many people are caught up in the social inequalities that exist in America and after they are released they just go back to the same conditions where they were before they were locked up
-I always try to figure out what can be done to fix this. What can we do to decrease the rate of recidivism?
